Summer Learning Journey Day 4

Activity 1: The Waiata-A song in your heart

My favorite waiata is Ko Te Whaea, This is my favorite waiata because I learned it at my first school Hornby Primary school when we had the new principal come in.

Activity 2: Playing games

Name of game: Poi Rakau
The goal, or purpose of the game: Training game for warriors
Two rules: 1 person in the middle and passes out to the circle, If the person passes with their right hand, then the catcher must catch with their left hand and pass to the next person on their left, that person passes back to the middle.

Bonus Activity: Musical Festivals- Matatini

Favorite to least favorite: #1-Te Puku o Te Ika- I like this one because it had a person that might have been in the group

#2- Tamatea Arikinui- It was nice to see them all spread out on the stage and having a lead person

#3-Te Iti Kahurangi-I did not like this one because the camera was blurred.

  3. Hi there Paris,

Good job on the blog post. I really enjoyed reading your activities and you have really shown me your understanding of the Maori game Poi Rakau. It sounds like you would need a lot of hand eye coordination to play this game.

With your first activity about your favourite waiata, I used to sing that song in school as well, it's a really lovely song and that's awesome how it means so much to you and how you learnt it at your primary school.

With your bonus activity, in your favourite Kapa Haka group, did you know someone in the group? That would be awesome to know someone whose performed in a Kapa Haka festival like this! Have you ever been a part of a cultural group such as Kapa Haka before?

Looking forward to hearing from you and keep up the great blogging!

    Jade F :)
