Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 5

Activity 1: VE Day

Who would I invite: My family, Aunty, and cousins, My nana, my grandad, Friends: Alundra, Kaela, Shristi.

What would we do: Have a BQQ and fireworks,
Listen to music


Activity 2:  Making a Fashion Statement

They are quite the same but the woman does not wear gloves anymore. Mens still wear suits.

I like that woman wear hats and men wear suits because they look very Fashionable

What will people be wearing 65 years from now: They would look very pretty


Bonus Activity: Sweet tooth

Trifle recipe:

1-sponge
1 can of Peaches
Custard
Cream
1-Flake
2 tablespoons of icing sugar
2 drops of vanilla essence

Method:

1.Cut the sponge up into cubes palace in a serving bowl. Open the can of peaches and tip the whole can of peaches on top of the sponge.

2. Open the custard and pour on top of sponge and peaches. Put the whole bottle of cream in a mixing bowl put two tablespoons of icing sugar and two drops of vanilla essences. Whip until ready then put it on top of everything in the bowl. Put the flake on top of the Trifle that you have just made.

3. Then enjoy the trifle.

Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 4

Activity 1: An Eventful Experience

Two key event's

1. 23rd of November- Freyberg left New Zealand for San Francisco in March 1914 and traveled to Mexico possibly becoming involved in the civil war raging in that country. But on hearing of the outbreak of the first world war in August he immediately left for England to volunteer. Freyberg was awarded numerous honours for his actions during the first world war.

2. 7th of  April- The Italian invasion of Albania (April 7-12, 1939) was a brief military campaign by the Kingdom of Italy against the  Albanian Kingdom. The conflict was a result of the imperialist policies of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.


Activity 2: A call to Arms

Sergeant John Daniel Hilton, 20th Battalion, 2NZEF
Date of action: 28-29 April 1941 (Kalamata Greece)
Date of awarded: 17 of October 1941

Why was John Hilton awarded the VC- He was told he had been awarded the VC as he lay in hospital recovering from a beating administered to him after one of these attempts.


Bonus Activity: Woman at work

One day I was walking along the deck of the ship when I heard a loud bang. I started running as I see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. I run towards the room where my patients are waiting for treatment from the doctor. Just as I arrive at the door to their room I hear another bang and I  start calling for all the other nurses to see if they know what the loud bang is. All the other nurses run to me because someone is running after all the nurses with a gun I start running to tell all my patients to hide because there is a gunman on the ship that is making all the loud bang that we can hear. We hie under chairs and the bed in the doctor's room, we had a little girl that lost her parents that ran into the doctor's room I looked after her. She was 10 years old girl I had to get her name she was called Yvette she comes from Thailand she had been coming over with her family for a few year now.  It had been a while since the loud bang happened I went out to see if he was still there, he was on the died we did not hear a gunshot we saw a  soldier standing beside him with a gun he was our hero.  Everyone came out we asked all our patients if they where all right, nobody had been shot, everyone was shaken.

Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 3

Activity 1: Dealing with stress

I like to exercise because I like to keep fit.  I like to relax and listen to music I think listening to music is the best way relax.

Activity 2: Offering a helping hand

Three things that I would try do if I lived in the 1930's if the crop where damaged is sale some things to people to help get money,


Bonus Activity: Paying it forward

What I would take to my family games, clothing, healthy food and junk food, new books that they have never seen before.

Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 2

Activity 1: Popular Culture-The Silent Movie

The lion's cage is very funny I would love to watch a silent movie they would be so funny to watch.


Activity 2: Art deco

I love the piece of artwork it is very clever. I give this piece of art a 5 out of 5 it is just very clever because of the way they have done it


Bonus Activity: Crossing the Tasman


We have finally landed somewhere safe so now we can get the radio to start working

Activity 1: The Early years

Activity 2: The right vote

That is not fair that just men were allowed to vote the woman should have an input on what is happening not just men because that is not right.




Bonus Activity: In Flanders fields

I like this poem it is very clear on what has happened.  It makes me feel like all of the men and woman that saved our country are great.

Summer Learning Journey Day 5

Activity 1: Translating Phases

Nau Mai ki Aotearoa- Welcome to New Zealand

Paris is my name- Ko Paris Toku ingoa

What is your name?- Ko wai to ingoa

He pai taku ki te takaro I te whutupaoro.-I like to play rugby

Where do you come from?- No hea koe?


Activity 2: The Treaty of Waitangi

Three fun facts:

The treaty was signed by both Maori chefs and British crown.
Today the Treaty Grounds are an opportunity to learn about Maori culture and the historical events associated with the signing of the treaty.
Not only is Waitangi engaging from an educational point of view, it's also a very beautiful place to explore.


The one activity I would like to do is Waitangi Mountian Bike Park

Summer Learning Journey Day 4

Activity 1: The Waiata-A song in your heart

My favorite waiata is Ko Te Whaea, This is my favorite waiata because I learned it at my first school Hornby Primary school when we had the new principal come in.


Activity 2: Playing games

Name of game: Poi Rakau
The goal, or purpose of the game: Training game for warriors
Two rules: 1 person in the middle and passes out to the circle, If the person passes with their right hand, then the catcher must catch with their left hand and pass to the next person on their left, that person passes back to the middle.



Bonus Activity: Musical Festivals- Matatini

Favorite to least favorite: #1-Te Puku o Te Ika- I like this one because it had a person that might have been in the group

#2- Tamatea Arikinui- It was nice to see them all spread out on the stage and having a lead person

#3-Te Iti Kahurangi-I did not like this one because the camera was blurred.

Summer Learning Journey Day 3

Activity 1: The more, the merrier

Being in a large family would be great but I would rather stay in the family that I am in because it is just perfect the way it is. Plus being in a bigger family their we hardly any space anywhere.

Summer Learning Journey Day 2

Activity 1: A house or a home

The difference between a wharepuni and my house is that they are not the same shape but they both have windows and door. The wharepuni is a very cool place it would be nice to see what the inside looks like.

Bonus activity: Special Meals

My favorite meal is veggie nachos the are very my cooking teacher make them with our whole class they were the best, I asked her what was best with meat or without meat and she said without meat.

Summer Learning Journey Day 1

Activity 1: Arriving in New Zealand:

Three facts about Maui:

1.That Maui dreamed that he would go fishing with his older brothers

2.Maui has four brothers

3.Maui's brother would go out fishing and when they come back Maui would ask if he could go next time but his brothers said he was too young.

Hey Alundra, I am having fun time traveling but moving away is hard I wish I was at home hanging with you. I like traveling but it makes me sick just looking at the ocean and how far away we are from land, I wish you where here traveling with me so I have someone to talk to. If I was asked if I wanted to go on a waka I would say yes because they look very fun to work and you can get active by going in a waka
