Summer Learning Journey Week 4 Day 3

Activity 1: Mixed-member proportional (MMP)

Who would to partner with: I would partner with my friend Alundra and Alundra's sister Keala. Why would I have Alundra because she is smart and kind she is very good at making decisions that work all the time. I would take Keala because she is very very funny and makes me laugh at school. So  I think we would make a pretty good team.

Activity 2: Migration

I live in Christchurch New Zealand

What tourist come to do:
#1-Go to the beach
#2-Go see penguins at the International Antarctic Centre
#3-Try our food

What do I like about my hometown: That I know where everything is around me.

Bonus Activity: Modern Learning Environments

In the classroom that I designed with two rooms that people can work alone if they want to. their are two big tables to work at with your friends, Their are some beanbag at the right corner of the room for people to work on nice coloured chairs. I had to inculcated a kitchen in the classroom because people love cooking, the floor has a big space for people to work on if they do not want to work at tables. The floor colour a baby blue colour.

  1. Hi there Paris,

Jade F here from the Summer Learning Journey team. Great job on completing another set of activities. I really enjoyed reading through your coalition members choices. That’s good that you’ve chosen friends who you know you’ll work well with as well as have fun with! Otherwise work would get boring pretty quick!

With your second activity, well done on listing three activities to do in your hometown! I have some questions since I have never been to Christchurch long enough to take a look around (I’ve only stopped through going down to Dunedin), what are some beaches that you recommend on going to in Christchurch? Also what are some specific food down in Christchurch that you reckon people should try and why?

In your bonus activity, I thought you made an amazing effort in your classroom floor plan. That’s awesome you added a kitchen in your class, it would make it handy for people who bring leftovers for lunch to heat up for lunch time. I’m curious to know, where would the teacher be stationed in the classroom? Also, is there a mat area for whole class discussions? Let me know in a comment! :)

Looking forward to hearing from you soon and keep up the good work Paris!

    All the best,
    Jade F :)

  2. Kia Ora Paris,

My name is Georgia and I am the cluster manager for the Kaikohekohe (Northland) cluster. For the next few days, I'll be commenting on students blogs from Uru Manuka and I am very excited to see the work you all have been doing this summer.

I really enjoyed reading your list of things for tourists to do in Christchurch. My best friend lives in Christchurch while she is training to be a medic in the NZ Navy. I've been to Christchurch once but I didn't get the chance to see any penguins at the International Antarctic Centre unfortunately.

I live in Whangarei during the Summer and Wellington during the school year as I attend university there. Have you ever been to the North Island? If so, where in specific?

I love the floor plan for your classroom, especially the bean bag area. I think an area for students to take a break, read a book and relax is essential in a classroom. I thought it was quite interesting that you included a kitchen - do the schools in Christchurch have kitchens or is that something you'd like to have added?
